OSHAKATI, Namibia, August 27, 2026 —
Naira Index, LLC today announced the official launch of the Naira Index (NXY), a rules-based, blockchain-native benchmark developed to measure the performance of the Nigerian Naira relative to the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY).
The launch includes the introduction of the interactive NXY Benchmark Chart at nairanxy.com, providing policymakers, economists, financial institutions, analysts, researchers and foreign-exchange market participants with a transparent reference for monitoring the Naira within the global U.S. dollar environment.
Founded and developed by Simon Kapenda in March 2026, NXY combines defined benchmark methodology, authenticated data publication, machine-readable access and on-chain infrastructure deployed on BNB Smart Chain.
“Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country and one of its most consequential economies, yet the performance of the Nigerian Naira is frequently interpreted through fragmented exchange-rate quotations and disconnected market narratives. NXY introduces a consistent and independently verifiable analytical reference through which the Naira can be measured against movements in the global U.S. dollar environment.”Simon Kapenda · Creator and Developer, Naira Index
A rules-based measure of Naira performance
Under NXY Benchmark Methodology Version 1.0, the benchmark is calculated using a validated dollar reference and an NGN-per-U.S.-dollar observation:
The resulting unitless benchmark generally rises when the Naira strengthens relative to the dollar reference and falls when the Naira weakens, all else being equal.
NXY does not replace an official exchange rate or reproduce a conventional NGN/USD currency quotation. It provides an additional analytical measure showing how the Naira is performing in relation to the broader international dollar environment represented by DXY.
Interactive NXY Benchmark Chart
The NXY Benchmark Chart has been developed as a comparative analytical interface rather than a conventional currency-price chart.
For visual comparison, the chart rebases NXY and the dollar-reference series to 100 at the beginning of each selected period. This allows users to compare their respective percentage movements without suggesting that their underlying raw values share the same numerical scale.
The chart includes:
- Interactive observation points for NXY and the dollar-reference series;
- A synchronized vertical crosshair connecting corresponding observations;
- Tooltips displaying the valuation date, NXY level, DXY reference and NGN-per-U.S.-dollar rate;
- Mouse and keyboard interaction on desktop devices;
- Touch interaction on mobile devices;
- Clearly differentiated NXY and dollar-reference lines;
- Multiple observation periods, including 1D, 7D, 1M, 3M, 1Y, 3Y, 5Y and the complete available series; and
- Machine-readable benchmark observations through the NXY API.
The chart displays the NXY benchmark—not the market price of the NXY digital asset. The benchmark level and token market value are independent of one another.
Transparent benchmark infrastructure
NXY operates through modular protocol infrastructure deployed on BNB Smart Chain. The architecture separates source validation, oracle participation, benchmark publication, analytical access, compliance administration and governance execution.
The infrastructure includes:
- A published, rules-based methodology;
- Defined source-governance and validation controls;
- Authenticated benchmark publication;
- Chronologically ordered observations;
- 18-decimal fixed-point calculation precision;
- Methodology identification for published observations;
- Machine-readable analytical access;
- Publicly inspectable protocol contracts; and
- Timelocked governance controls.
The canonical NXY protocol entry point is deployed on BNB Smart Chain, Chain ID 56, at:
0xfDA959889a4b8e189D17cA161C74A348cc1Ca57B
The supporting protocol infrastructure is open source and available for independent technical inspection.
Present benchmark classification
The current public NXY benchmark series is classified as indicative.
It uses a calculated dollar reference derived from European Central Bank foreign-exchange reference rates together with the disclosed cNGN NGN/USD oracle reference layer. It is not an official ICE U.S. Dollar Index publication.
This classification is presented directly within the benchmark interface and its supporting metadata. Any future licensed or separately designated canonical series will be clearly identified and will not be silently combined with the existing indicative historical record.
NXY is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the European Central Bank, ICE Data Indices or any other central bank, exchange or public authority.
Benchmark, protocol and digital asset
NXY Benchmark — The rules-based reference level calculated from validated dollar-reference and NGN-per-U.S.-dollar observations.
NXY Protocol — The oracle, validation, publication, governance and analytical infrastructure supporting authenticated and independently verifiable benchmark observations.
NXY Token — A transferable BEP-20 digital asset designed to support access and participation across NXY data, analytics, licensing and protocol services.
The NXY token is not a tokenized Naira, stablecoin, deposit or reserve-backed asset. It does not represent ownership of Nigerian Naira, U.S. dollars or foreign-exchange reserves. Its independently determined market value does not equal or automatically track the published NXY benchmark level.
Supporting institutional Naira analysis
The performance of the Naira affects domestic purchasing power, international trade, remittances, investment decisions, corporate planning and Nigeria’s relationship with global capital markets.
NXY has been developed to support:
- Macroeconomic and currency research;
- Treasury and foreign-exchange monitoring;
- Financial-data platforms and market terminals;
- Institutional market dashboards;
- Academic and public-policy analysis;
- Historical performance assessment;
- Developer and analytical integrations; and
- Independently governed digital-market applications.
“NXY does not attempt to replace official monetary statistics, determine the value of the Naira or intervene in the foreign-exchange market. It provides a transparent analytical lens built around defined methodology, reproducible calculations, authenticated publication and public verification.”Simon Kapenda · Creator and Developer, Naira Index
About Naira Index
Naira Index (NXY) is rules-based, blockchain-native benchmark and digital-asset infrastructure founded and developed by Simon Kapenda in March 2026.
NXY measures the performance of the Nigerian Naira relative to the U.S. Dollar Index through disclosed data sources, defined validation controls, governed methodology administration, authenticated API publication and deployed on-chain infrastructure.
Naira Index, LLC serves as the legal benchmark administrator and issuer of the NXY digital asset. The infrastructure supports currency analysis, economic research, market intelligence, machine-readable financial data and independently governed institutional and digital-market applications.
NXY does not operate a foreign-exchange market, execute currency trades, accept deposits, manage client assets, maintain Naira or U.S. dollar reserves, or intervene in currency markets.
Important notice
The NXY benchmark is provided for informational, analytical and research purposes. It is not an official exchange rate, monetary-policy instrument, financial product, investment recommendation or offer to buy or sell any security or digital asset. The present public benchmark series is indicative and depends on the accuracy, availability, licensing and timeliness of external data sources. Independent verification and appropriate professional judgment remain necessary before NXY is used in institutional, commercial, regulatory or financial applications.
